What we do

St Andrews is a relatively small town (population circa 18,000), yet enjoys a worldwide reputation. Its historic heritage, famous golf courses, respected University, glorious beaches, and its independent shops, along with a high standard of hospitality, explain its ongoing popularity – approaching 1 million visitors come here annually!

Because of this high profile, we feel that St Andrews has a particular responsibility to present itself well at all times, and to act in an environmentally sustainable manner. We feel privileged to live here and hope that we are responsible stewards of this wonderful place.

Our core Bloom Group is a very small, hardworking and dedicated team. In 2011, we realised that wider community participation was needed if we were to build on past successes, Accordingly, we regrouped and, with renewed enthusiasm, formed a new committee, with representation from a wider cross-section of the community, allowing a better flow of information, work strategy and volunteers. We also launched this website in 2012, with the aim of improving our communications with everyone involved, and it is being added to regularly.

As we move into 2014, we have retained our “mission statement”, which sums up just what we are trying to achieve:

“One proud community, one shared goal –

a clean, green and stunning town.”
